Sheers and Lace Fabrics Sheers and Lace curtains make good privacy screens they can be used behind heavy drapes so they are closest to your window, or in front of blinds. Recommended fullness for this type of fabric is best between 2 and a half to 3 times the window or track/rod width. A sheer curtain is a transparent plain fabric usually made from polyester. A sheer has other names: Voile, Muslin, Organza Voile and Snow Voile. Sheers also come in different finishes: Crushed, Stripe, Patterned, Multi coloured and Cornelli. Cornelli has an embroidered pattern on it usually about 20 to 30 centimetres up from the base. Sheers traditionally came in white and ivory, with today`s new window fashions we have a lot more colours to choose from. A lace curtain is a knitted semi transparent fabric made from polyester. Lace curtain fabric comes in various weights from fine to heavy. Lace designs vary but generally are floral patterned. Lace comes in colours of white, Ivory, cream and ecru, ecru being a rich cream. Solid Curtain Fabric We have loads to choose from: Cottons, Cotton prints, Jacquards, Suedes, Plains, Stripes, Embossed, the colour ranges are vast, something for every decor. Uncoated fabric: is just the fabric with no lining, to make it blockout, lining is added during manufacturing. 1 pass, sunout, light filtering: this blocks out the suns direct light but still lets filtered light through and is known by all 3 to be the same degree of blockout of about 50%. You can`t see through it but can see some light. To test this and you have a piece or are in a shop just hold it between you and the lights. Blockout: This can be a lining sewn in during manufacturing to make your finished curtains 100% blockout, or a fabric which has had the blockout added to it after the fabric has been milled. This will give you full insulation from extreme weather conditions. To work out what degree of insulation/blockout you need on a particular window, feel the glass at different times of the day, check to see if the window is shaded by a tree or veranda, The glass in your window transfers the weather conditions from outside into your home. Curtain Fabric Linings Fabric Linings for your curtains are a seperate fabric sewn in during manufacturing thus making the curtain have 2 layers. Fabric linings help protect the back of you main curtain fabric by not exposing it to the outside elements. Cotton Fabric Lining is suitable if you have side drapes in front of a blind. Interlining Fabric is used between the main fabric and a blockout fabric lining when you need to cut down on noise and to give that light weight fabric a bit of weight. Great for home theatres. Blockout Fabric Linings will protect your curtains and furnishings from the harsh sun that damages them when they are closed. Blockout Fabric linings are great for shift workers keeping the room dark in the day. Best way to get full benefit of blockout lined curtains is on hot days shut the drapes where the sun is and stop the heat from entering the room. In the cold weather open them to let the winter warmth in the daytime but when it starts to cool in the afternonn shut your curtains to keep the warmth in. Filigree Blockout Linings come with a UPF 50+ rating for maximum protection.
